The environmental company Ragn-Sells has been invited to speak about the importance of transitioning wastewater treatment plants to resource plants during the Water Conference on March 12th in Leuven. The one-day conference delves into the theme of 'Speeding up to a water-resilient Europe – Towards an EU water resilience agenda.'
With a growing concern for water resilience within the European Union, the conference aims to address pressing issues such as drought, water scarcity, and the escalating frequency of severe floods. Ragn-Sells' Chief Sustainability Officer, Pär Larshans, is set to attend with a focus on the theme ‘Innovation into practice – Solutions for the circular transformation of water.’
- In challenging linear principles from the 1970s, where the focus is on reducing waste and doing things ”less bad”, I advocate for the implementation of circular principles. This approach not only produces high-quality raw materials but also incorporates detoxification, paving the way for sustainable and impactful solutions, says Pär Larshans, Chief Sustainability Officer at Ragn-Sells.

Hosted during the Belgian Presidency of the EU Council, this one-day conference is set to provide valuable perspectives and insights on water resilience in Europe. Notably, the event will witness the participation of key stakeholders from the Water Europe community, emphasising the collaborative effort required to tackle these challenges effectively.
Advocating for the incorporation of "resource plant" principles in society, Mr. Larshans will be emphasising the importance of efficiently utilising valuable resources in the water.
- The Belgian EU presidency has done great work with the final version of the UWWTD (Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive). It will be the start of the transformation of today’s wastewater treatment plants, turning them into resource plants, says Mr. Larshans.
