Ragn-Sells nominated for the Food Planet Prize

null

As the global population stands at nearly 8 billion and rapidly increases, it is an existential challenge to create a sustainable food system within the planetary boundaries. Newly founded Food Planet Prize rewards initiatives that promote a viable living environment and at the same time feed the world. When the prize is awarded for the first time, Ragn-Sells and their innovation company EasyMining are among the Editors' Pick as nominees.

The food sector has significant responsibility for driving the environment beyond planetary boundaries, the safe operating space we should stay within to avert large-scale and abrupt environmental degradation. The earth is theoretically capable of feeding 10 billion people, but not the way we do it today. If our ecosystems collapse, we face a future without food. We must find solutions that can help to change our food system so that a sustainable food supply within the planetary boundaries can be established. The Food Planet Prize will highlight and support new ideas and ground-breaking efforts and solutions along the entire food chain in a circular perspective, as well as initiatives completely outside or across existing value chains.

- It is an honour to be one of the nominees nominated when this global prize will be awarded for the first time. It becomes obvious with the latest events in the world that we really need sustainable food production, and our solutions to recover and recycle vital nutrients will contribute to that, says Pär Larshans, sustainability manager at Ragn-Sells.

Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium are three essential nutrients for agricultural crop production. Ragn-Sells and EasyMining has developed several novel processes to recover and recycle vital nutrients and use them in agricultural fertilizers, to secure agricultural productivity and reduce water pollution.
